EASY TO FIND: It’s very easy to find in herb shops, online, and in culinary stores. Make sure you’re buying Lavender that’s safe to consume. Some craft stores sell lavender but it’s not food safe because it’s been treated with chemicals to enhance the color.

COST: Approximately $1.50-$3.00 an ounce.

FOLKLORE & MAGICK: Known as Elf Leaf, Lavender has been used for thousands of years. It’s the go to herb in your witch’s apothecary. It’s known for attracting love and was used in love spells. Lavender is calming and can induce peaceful sleep and dreams. It’s known for protection and warding off negative energy. In the past is was used a perfume and in Ancient Egypt for embalming.

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES: Lavender is known for calming anxiety, relieving headaches, and inducing restful sleep. It’s a nervine that can relieve tension and calm down nervousness. It can be used to repel insects and has antifungal properties. It’s soothing for the skin and can be made into a massage oil or foot balm to encourage sleep. 

MAGICKAL USES: Burning lavender can purify spaces. Dried Lavender under a pillow can ward off bad dreams and induce peaceful sleep. Sprinkle some in a bath for a energy cleansing ritual. Use to boost spells to attract love and improve self love. 

THERAPEUTIC USES: A cup of lavender tea before bed can work wonders if you’ve been having bad dreams or have been unable to sleep. Or if you’re just feeling on edge after a bad day. A drop or two of Lavender essential oil in a diffuser in your bedroom can help ease tension and help you drift off to sleep.

IDEAS FOR USING: Fill a sachet with Lavender flowers and place under your pillow to ward off bad dreams and encourage restful sleep. Burn Lavender in your home to ward off negative energies. I like to add Lavender to my bath to wash away any negative funk that may have attached to me at the end of a long day where I’m feeling extra stressed and run down. Keep a sprig in your pocket to attract love. It can be made into tincture to use in potions. Make lavender glycerin to use in skincare.

My favorite way to use Lavender is to make an infused oil that you can add to lotions, balms, salves, body products, or use as a relaxing massage oil.

When extracted into a tincture or glycerite:

BEST ALCOHOL PROOF: 150 proof

TIME TO STEEP: 5 days

FLAVOR: Strongly bitter, cool pungent aromatic, hints of camphor and pine
